Exponent Calculator: The Complete Guide
Raise any number to any power. Enter a base and an exponent — whole, negative, or fractional — to get the result, shown in full and in scientific notation.
Who the Exponent Calculator is for
Students and engineers computing powers, roots, and growth quickly.
How to use the Exponent Calculator
- Type your values into the fields above — pick your currency or units where the calculator offers them.
- Results update automatically as you type; there's no submit button and nothing is sent to a server.
- Adjust any input to compare scenarios, then copy the result with a single click.
How it works
A power is base raised to the exponent (baseᵉˣᵖ). A negative exponent gives a reciprocal; a fractional exponent gives a root — for example, 8^(1/3) is the cube root of 8.
Features
- Whole, negative & fractional powers
- Scientific notation
- Large-number support
- Instant result
Reading exponents
An exponent tells you how many times to multiply the base by itself. Negative exponents flip to a reciprocal (2⁻¹ = 0.5), and fractional exponents are roots (4^0.5 = 2). Powers grow fast, so the calculator also shows results in scientific notation when they get large.
