Gravel Calculator: The Complete Guide
Estimate how much gravel your project needs. Enter the length, width, and depth to get the gravel weight in tonnes and US tons, plus the volume in cubic yards.
Who the Gravel Calculator is for
Homeowners and landscapers filling a driveway, path, or drainage area with gravel.
How to use the Gravel Calculator
- Type your values into the fields above — pick your currency or units where the calculator offers them.
- Results update automatically as you type; there's no submit button and nothing is sent to a server.
- Adjust any input to compare scenarios, then copy the result with a single click.
How it works
Volume = length × width × depth. Weight = volume × density, using about 1.68 tonnes per cubic metre for dry gravel. US tons = tonnes × 1.102.
Features
- Tonnes and US tons
- Volume in m³ and yd³
- Imperial or metric
- Driveway-ready
Estimating gravel
Gravel is sold by weight or volume. Multiply your area by the depth to get the volume, then convert to weight using a density of roughly 1.68 tonnes per cubic metre for dry gravel. A driveway typically needs a 3–4 inch depth; wet stone or different grades weigh somewhat more.
