Sand Calculator: The Complete Guide
Estimate how much sand your project needs. Enter the length, width, and depth to get the sand weight in tonnes and US tons, plus the volume in cubic yards.
Who the Sand Calculator is for
DIYers and builders laying paver bedding, sandpits, or fill who need a sand quantity.
How to use the Sand Calculator
- Type your values into the fields above — pick your currency or units where the calculator offers them.
- Results update automatically as you type; there's no submit button and nothing is sent to a server.
- Adjust any input to compare scenarios, then copy the result with a single click.
How it works
Volume = length × width × depth. Weight = volume × density, using about 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre for dry sand. US tons = tonnes × 1.102.
Features
- Tonnes and US tons
- Volume in m³ and yd³
- Imperial or metric
- Bedding & fill
Estimating sand
Sand is sold by weight or volume. Multiply your area by the depth for the volume, then convert using a density of roughly 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre for dry sand. Moisture adds weight, so wet sand is heavier — order a little extra to be safe.
