How it works

Wall area = total wall length × height. Rolls = area × 1.15 (for trim and pattern waste) ÷ the usable area of a standard roll (about 5 m²).

Features

  • Standard rolls needed
  • 15% waste included
  • Imperial or metric
  • Wall area shown

Buying wallpaper rolls

A standard wallpaper roll covers about 5 square metres once you account for trimming and matching the pattern. Calculate your total wall area, add roughly 15% for waste, and divide by the roll's usable coverage. Large pattern repeats waste more, so buy an extra roll and keep it for repairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why add extra for the pattern?

Matching a repeating pattern across strips means trimming off some material, so 10–15% extra is typical — more for large repeats.

Should I subtract doors and windows?

For small openings it's safer not to, as the offcuts are often unusable. The built-in waste margin covers normal openings.
